the KITCHEN at Honeyman Creek Farm celebrates the vast array of American food traditions and the hospitality centered around the family table. Ranging from the recipes that sailed to the 13 colonies with the first settlers to the various cuisines that have immigrated to our country over the last two centuries, these food traditions have molded the American palette and have become the soul of American cooking. At the heart of it is the family kitchen, in which all of these unique recipes and traditions have been handed down from generation to generation, creating America’s true melting pot, our collective culinary experience.
Desiring to adopt a more sustainable lifestyle, Thom Booze and I realized a lifelong dream when we purchased our six-acre farm in Warren, Oregon, where it sits nestled in the heart of a pristine forest. Honeyman Creek, adjoined by seasonal wetlands, runs through the backside of the farm. And to welcome each visitor to our beloved retreat stands a giant Black Walnut tree, planted by the settlers who established the original homestead.
As did our family generations before us, we grow, raise, and preserve much of the food that we serve on our table. Cultivated with both sustainable and organic growing practices, our farm provides us with abundant fresh fruits and vegetables. Pledging our stewardship to both agricultural integrity and the preservation of our delicate ecosystem, Thom and I work to maintain many heirloom crop varieties including apples, raspberries, melons, tomatoes, squash, snap beans, and lettuce. In addition to produce, we also raise chickens, guinea fowl, turkeys, and pigs. Producing fresh foodstuffs is an integral part of American food traditions, and one that we hope to help pass down for many generations to come.
Having
lived and traveled throughout much of the United States, I have had the opportunity
to learn at the apron strings of many of the best cooks and chefs whose dishes
are part of the varied regional and ethnic culinary styles that make up traditional
American cuisine. Through cooking classes and food celebrations, I invite
you into my KITCHEN at Honeyman Creek Farm, where together we can
share and delight in our American food traditions.
